When the tag says 009, the 007 cover is not "close enough." The Watts 009M2QT reduced pressure zone assembly is taller and bulkier than the 007 family. Installers who try to force a smaller cover compress insulation around the relief bonnet — and that is when freeze damage shows up on the test report in spring.
We built the 009M2QT cover as a dedicated pattern, not an oversized generic.
Assembly profile
The 009M2QT shows up on larger commercial irrigation stations, high-flow domestic entries, and jobs where the engineer spec'd a bigger RP because the 007 was marginal on CV requirements. You see them pad-mounted, post-mounted, and occasionally horizontal on custom racks.
Our cover accounts for:
- Increased relief bonnet height versus 007-series assemblies
- Test cock placement on the larger body casting
- Valve handle clearance at shutoffs
- Insulation depth that maintains R-value without binding moving parts
Pair with the 007 SKU
Smart distributors stock both the 007M1QT and 009M2QT covers. Counter staff should ask "007 or 009?" when the customer only says "Watts RP." That one question eliminates most fit returns.

When to spec custom instead
Retrofits sometimes replace a 009 with a different brand's large RP — same pipe centerline, different dimensions. If the tag is missing or the assembly was rebuilt, send measurements. We fabricate custom covers in 3–5 business days.
Legacy 909 installs are a third distinct pattern — do not assume cross-fit between 007, 009, and 909 families.

When customers say "just give me the bigger one"
Counter staff hear it every season. On Watts RPs, bigger is not a universal size — it is a 009 versus 007 decision. Document the model on the invoice so returns do not become a debate in spring. Good distributors train seasonal help on that distinction before the first freeze email blast.
Height comparison at a glance
If you can see the assembly in person, the 009 bonnet typically stands noticeably taller than a 007 on the same pad. When photos are all you have, compare relief stack height against known 007 jobs on the same account — property managers often have multiples.
