RP backflow covers sized for reduced pressure zone assemblies

RP assemblies are the big ones — tall relief bonnets, four test cocks, and zero patience for a bag that fights the shutoffs. We size covers around the RP you actually have on the truck.

Reduced pressure zone assemblies — RP or RPZ depending on who you ask — are the workhorse of commercial backflow protection. Irrigation pumps, domestic water entries, and plenty of fire service setups run RPs because they provide the highest level of protection in a serviceable package.

They are also the hardest covers to get right with a universal sleeve.

Why RP covers are different

An RP is taller than a DC or PVB. The relief valve bonnet adds height. Test cocks sit in predictable but brand-specific locations. A cover that is too short compresses the relief mechanism. Too narrow and your installer cannot get the insulation seated around the shutoff valves. Too long and the drawcord flaps in the wind until it shreds.

When a contractor reads you the model number, confirm orientation — vertical is standard but horizontal installs happen on pad-mounted setups. Ask if there is a strapped post or wall mount; clearance matters for height measurement.

For backflow testers quoting winterization work, pairing the correct RP cover with the test saves a callback. Testers who stock covers reduce "can you grab one while you are here?" friction.

Common questions

What is the difference between RP and RPZ covers?
Same assembly type — reduced pressure zone. Some specs say RPZ, some say RP. Match the make and model on the nameplate; the cover pattern follows the factory dimensions regardless of abbreviation.
Will the cover fit over the test cocks?
Yes — our patterns include clearance for test cock handles in the standard orientation for each model. If cocks were relocated or extended, send photos for a custom spec.
Which Watts RP cover sells most?
The 007M1QT pattern is our number-one top SKU nationwide. The 009M2QT covers larger RP assemblies. Many yards stock both plus the legacy 909 pattern for older installs.
Are these heated enclosures?
No. These are insulated slip-on covers for seasonal freeze protection — not ASSE 1060 heated enclosures. For many climates and winterization programs, insulated covers are the practical, cost-effective choice.
